Albany Med to Present Free Seminar on Deep Brain Stimulation Therapy

ALBANY, N.Y., November 13, 2013 - Albany Medical Center neurosurgeon Julie Pilitsis, M.D., Ph.D., will discuss the benefits and risks of deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, tremor and dystonia at a free seminar Monday, Nov. 18 at noon at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany.

DBS is a surgical treatment involving the implantation of a medical device called a brain pacemaker which sends electrical impulses to specific parts of the brain. DBS has been shown to provide therapeutic benefits for otherwise treatment-resistant movement and affective disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tremor and dystonia.

Participants also will have an opportunity to share lunch with a patient who has been implanted with DBS.

Space is limited. To register, please call (518) 262-0739.
