Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Intensivist Join Children's Hospital
ALBANY, N.Y., August 24, 2007 - Cary M. Qualia, M.D., a pediatric gastroenterologist and Ashley R. Loomis, M.D., a pediatric intensivist, have been named assistant professors of pediatrics at the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
Dr. Qualia was fellowship trained in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong in Rochester, New York. He completed his residency and received his medical degree at Upstate Medical University. Dr. Qualia has a special interest in treating pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), eosinophilic esophagitis.
Dr. Loomis joins Albany Med following a fellowship in pediatric critical care at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics after receiving her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Loomis has a special interest in managing patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and her research has focused on bleeding complications in ECMO. She treats children with a full spectrum of critical illness, including traumatic injuries, congenital heart disease and severe infections.
The Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center is a 125-bed facility devoted exclusively to the medical needs of infants, children and adolescents, and is the referral center for all seriously ill and injured children from 25 counties in upstate New York and western New England. It is staffed by 110 physicians in 34 subspecialties and more than 300 pediatric nurses, therapists, social workers and child-life specialists.
