Dr. Edward Lee Appointed Chief of General Surgery at Albany Medical Center
ALBANY, N.Y., July 19, 2010—Edward Lee, M.D., has been named chief of the division of general surgery in the department of surgery at Albany Medical Center, according to an announcement by Steven Stain, M.D., professor and chair of the department of surgery at Albany Medical College and surgeon in chief at Albany Medical Center Hospital, and the Henry and Sally Schaffer Chair of Surgery.
In his new role, Dr. Lee will be responsible for leading the division of general surgery, the largest division in the department of surgery, which includes the sections of gastrointestinal oncology, trauma/critical care, breast/endocrine surgery, and transplantation.
“Dr. Lee is a highly regarded physician in colorectal surgery both at Albany Medical Center and nationally,” said Dr. Stain. “Under Dr. Lee’s proven leadership, we expect the division will continue the academic excellence and program growth that occurred under the previous division chief, Dr. David Conti.”
Dr. Lee joined the Medical Center in 1995, and has most recently served as professor of surgery.
He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, MA, and completed a surgical oncology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he also performed his residency. Dr. Lee received his medical degree from the University of California at San Diego.
