Graduate Students Honored at 35th Annual Awards Day Ceremony

ALBANY, N.Y., May 8, 2014 — Albany Medical College graduate students were honored during the 35th Annual Graduate Student Awards Day on April 10. As a prelude to awards day, the annual Graduate Student Poster Research Day was held in March, where more than 100 students presented research posters. The following awards were given:

THE RICHARD MILLER ALUMNI PRIZE FOR THE MOST OUTSTANDING RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS
First Place – Wilson Yu, Center for Neuropharmacology and Neuroscience, “The Ventral Pallidum: A Novel Deep Brain Stimulation Target for Epilepsy”

Second Place – Hamayun John Sharifi, Center for Immunology and Microbial Disease, “HIV and the CRL4 Complex: Correcting a Misconception, Resolving a Discrepancy, Illuminating Immune Cell Biology, and Revealing a Potent Restriction to Viral Replication”

Third Place – Rhiannon Kelsh, Center for Cell Biology and Cancer Research, “Regulation of the Innate Immune Response by Fibronectin: Synergism between the III-1 and EDA Domains”
