University ENT of Northeastern NY to Host Free Oral Cavity Cancer Screening
ALBANY, N.Y., April 22, 2008—A free oral cavity cancer screening will be held from 11am to 3pm Friday, April 25 at University Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) of Northeastern New York, 35 Hackett Blvd., Albany.
The screening takes place during National Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (April 21-27). Oral, head and neck cancer refers to a variety of cancers that develop in the head and neck region, including the mouth, throat, paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity, the larynx, thyroid and salivary glands, the skin of the face and neck, and the lymph nodes in the neck. More than 6,000 deaths occur in the United States from oral cavity cancer each year, and 22,000 new cases are diagnosed. The most effective prevention strategies include regular oral cavity exams, and the cessation of smoking, chewing tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.
