Cardiothoracic Surgeon Adanna Akujuo Joins Heart Team

ALBANY, N.Y., April 3, 2013—Cardiothoracic surgeon Adanna Akujuo, M.D., has joined Albany Medical Center’s Department of Surgery and has been appointed assistant professor of surgery in the cardiac section of the division of cardiothoracic surgery in the department of surgery. 
Dr. Akujuo earned her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine.
Board-certified in surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Akujuo served residencies in cardiothoracic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, and in general surgery at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center.  After her fellowship, she joined the faculty at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, where she worked closely with Dr. David H. Adams, developing her skills in Mitral valve reconstructive surgery.  
Dr. Akujuo specializes in complex mitral valve repair and minimally invasive approaches to all valve surgery.  She also treats all adult acquired heart disease.  With a special interest in heart care for women, her approach is tailored to each patient’s individual circumstances. 
Dr. Akujuo joins Albany Med’s cardiac surgery team after being in private practice for 3 years.  Albany Med’s cardiac surgery team offers leading-edge surgical procedures for the treatment of the entire spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease. Albany Med treats high-risk patients with rare and difficult conditions, as well as those with more common heart conditions.  She is accepting new patients.
