Free Seminar Will Focus on Diet for People with Chronic Kidney Disease

ALBANY, N.Y., April 9, 2012—Albany Medical Center will host a free seminar on the importance of diet in delaying or preventing complications in people with chronic kidney disease at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12 at its Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Clinic at the South Clinical Campus, 25 Hackett Boulevard, Albany. It will be led by Sue Indilicato, a registered dietician at Albany Med with specialization in renal disease.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, 26 million Americans have kidney disease and millions more are at an increased risk. Patients with CKD are at risk for high blood pressure, anemia, weak bones, and nerve damage. When CKD progresses, it may eventually lead to kidney failure, requiring dialysis or kidney transplant. Early detection and treatment are necessary to prevent progression of the disease.

Albany Med opened the CKD clinic last year, providing patients access to a team of specialists able to manage the numerous medical and nonmedical issues caused by kidney disease.

For more information or to register for the seminar, call the CKD Clinic at (518) 262-5176.
