Statement from Albany Medical Center on Mercury Arrest
ALBANY, N.Y., March 30, 2012— While, of course, all people are innocent until proven guilty, the arrest today in connection with the placement of mercury in our cafeteria is a relief. It is unconscionable that someone may have attempted to harm people at the very place that our community relies upon when in need of healing.
Albany Medical Center will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of every patient, staff member, student, and visitor in the Albany Med community. As this case shows, we will work with authorities to ensure that any individual who attempts to inflict harm on our community will be found and brought to justice.
Albany Med lauds the work of the Albany Police Department, the NYS Police, the FBI and our own security department. We will work with authorities in regard to a $25,000 reward the Medical Center offered earlier this week for information leading directly to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.
