Albany Medical Center Receives $254,686 from Melodies Sponsors
ALBANY, N.Y., March 3, 2008 - Representatives from CBS 6, Freihofer’s Baking Company, and Price Chopper presented a check today for $254,686 to officials at Albany Medical Center from proceeds raised by the 28th annual Melodies of Christmas concert and telecast. The event supports the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.
“Melodies of Christmas is a time-honored tradition that unites the community in the true spirit of the holiday season,” said David Clark, M.D., director of the Children’s Hospital. “In speaking for the staff and, most importantly, the families at the Children’s Hospital, we extend our most sincere gratitude to our sponsor - CBS 6, Freihofer’s, and Price Chopper, for their continued commitment to this vital regional resource; And, of course, to the residents of this region for their generosity and support.”
The event’s corporate sponsors presented the check to James J. Barba, president and CEO of Albany Med; and Lori Matt-Murphy, associate vice president for foundation operations and planned giving. Dr. Clark, along with three physicians from the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders - Vikramjit Kanwar, M.D., Jennifer Pearce, M.D., and Joanne Porter, M.D. - were also present for the ceremony. The money raised helps underwrite health care staff and a variety of child cancer services at Albany Med.
The Melodies of Christmas concerts were held at Proctor’s Theatre on December 13-16, 2007 and featured the Empire State Youth Orchestra and Chorale. The concert was broadcast by CBS 6 (channel 6) and the Capital Region’s CW (channel 15) on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
