Dr. Michael Gruenthal Appointed President of NYS Neurological Society

ALBANY, N.Y., February 6, 2013ŚMichael Gruenthal, M.D., Ph.D., chair of neurology at Albany Medical Center, has been named president of the New York State Neurological Society (NYSNS). He will serve a two-year term.

As president, Dr. Gruenthal will work with the board of directors and the executive director to develop and oversee all society activities including advocacy for neurology in the state, educational programs, strategic partnerships with other state and national organizations, and the society’s growth and development representing neurologists and their patients.

Dr. Gruenthal is a nationally known authority on epilepsy and has directed numerous clinical trials, including those aimed at finding ways to prevent harmful effects of seizures on the brain. He holds a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropharmacology at Duke University, and received his medical degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Albany Medical Center, northeastern New York’s only academic health sciences center, is one of the largest private employers in the Capital Region.
