Dr. Marc A. Judson Recognized as Sarcoidosis Expert

ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 22, 2014 — Marc A. Judson, M.D., chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Albany Medical Center, has been recognized as one of the top sarcoidosis experts in the world based on the substantial research he has done in the field.

Expertscape.com, a website that evaluates researchers based on the numbers of articles published and the quality of the publications accepting the research, ranks Dr. Judson as the world’s top-ranked expert in pulmonary sarcoidosis, and second-ranked in sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect any organ in the body, most commonly the lungs, skin or eyes. Although rarely fatal, sarcoidosis can cause organ damage leading to a decreased quality of life. Dr. Judson is the only sarcoidosis specialist in the region, and has evaluated and/or treated more than 400 patients for the disease since May 2011.

“The sarcoidosis research we are conducting at Albany Med is providing important insights into the causes of and treatments for this debilitating disease,” Dr. Judson said.

Dr. Judson has had at least 32 articles published on pulmonary sarcoidosis, and 81 on sarcoidosis, over the past decade.

Dr. Judson’s specialties include pulmonary and critical care medicine, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, fungal diseases of the lung, evaluation of shortness of breath and pulmonary complications of solid organ and bone marrow transplantation.
