Dr. Kuo Joins Albany Medical Center’s Neurosurgery Team
ALBANY, N.Y., January 3, 2008—Yu-Hung Kuo, M.D., Ph.D., a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with a special interest in minimally invasive neurosurgery, has joined the staff of Albany Medical Center and has been appointed assistant professor of surgery at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Kuo received his medical degree from Columbia University in New York City and received a research doctorate degree after completing Columbia University’s Integrated Program in Cellular, Molecular and Biophysical Sciences. He went on to complete his residency and also serve as chief resident at New York Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Kuo comes to Albany Med after completing the prestigious the Van Wagenen Fellowship—awarded by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons—at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, Australia.
He is fellowship trained in stereotactic radiosurgery – a knifeless procedure that utilizes precisely focused radiation to treat lesions of the brain. Potential targets include malignant and benign tumors as well as vascular malformations. Dr. Kuo also specializes in the use of an endoscope in cerebral surgery, a technique that minimizes the disruption of the brain during surgery. He is an expert in the treatment of brain tumors and pituitary tumors.
In addition, Dr. Kuo plans to conduct basic science research into the effects of radiation on the brain. His past research experience includes the cloning of growth factors involved in brain development and gene therapy delivery to the brain.
