Albany Med’s Emergency Department (ED) received the 2012 Michelle Martin Memorial Award from Albany County Stop DWI. The award recognized the ED for its outstanding care of DWI victims and their families.
“We at the Albany County Stop DWI Program wanted to recognize, through this award, those individuals who compassionately treat and care for the victims involved in crashes caused by impaired drivers,” said Lt. Kerry B. Thompson of the Albany County Stop DWI Program.
As the region’s only Level One trauma center and the busiest trauma center in New York State, ED staff members regularly deal with the trauma caused by DWI accidents. “These crimes have far-reaching impact,” said Lt. Thompson.
The Albany County Stop-DWI Program serves to educate the community regarding the dangers of impaired driving.
