A Mother's Gratitude...

Children's Hospital Logo"I will never forget the day I learned that my three-year-old son Myles had an aggressive brain tumor. The world stood still. I dropped to my knees. The word cancer echoed in my mind. But as quickly as the fear set in, a sense of support and comfort was there to help me back to my feet. At the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, we found a community of genuinely compassionate people. They took the time to know not only Myles, but his twin brother Marcelle, and they were with us on our journey every step of the way.

In a perfect world, no parent would have to watch a child battle cancer. But the reality is that some do. Thankfully, Myles has been out of treatment for two years and I am eternally grateful for every day that I have been given with him. Once you experience something like this you are forever changed. I am making a special effort to give back and I hope that you will do the same. Your support of the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders will help to ensure that children like Myles will continue to receive the best in pediatric cancer care here at home in our own community."

 Dancing In The Woods
Forty years ago, only 5% of children suffering from pediatric cancer survived. Today, 70% of children diagnosed with this devastating disease will be long-term survivors growing up to lead healthy and productive lives.

Thanks to community support, the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center has a sophisticated child cancer program that has grown to a multi-disciplinary team that includes four full-time pediatric hematologists/oncologists; seven highly trained chemotherapy nurses; two full-time social workers; a child life specialist and many other pediatric specialists. Annually, more than 700 children and families receive the very best medical and emotional care available right here in the Capital Region, close to the love and support of families and friends.

On behalf of the entire staff of the Children's Hospital and especially our young patients, thank you for your continued support of this very special program.
