“We absolutely love Chuck from the NICU. I had twins at 35 weeks and only one of them went to the NICU. That’s where we met our angel, Chuck. From the minute we got there he made us feel completely comfortable and safe knowing that my child was in the best hands, his hands. He promised me that he would take care of him every day he worked and that's exactly what he did. Having to bring home one child while leaving the other behind hooked up to every machine is hard enough, but knowing Chuck was there made my days go by a little better and a little faster. We are forever in his debt and so thankful he came into our lives. When my son saw him a year later, he went right up to him like he knew exactly who he was. It takes a special kind of person to do this kind of work and I want to thank everyone who does.”

Michelle Eastman came straight to our local hospital in VT after our son was born unexpectedly at home one night when I was only 27 weeks pregnant. She was amazing! She took charge and made a very chaotic and scary experience calm by reassuring us and taking over our son's emergency care. She told us what to expect with our son's transfer to Albany Medical Center and helped acclimate us once he got settled in there. His primary nurse, Eileen Cardone, walked us through every step of my son’s care while we were there. She was amazing, as were so many of the other NICU nurses. She even got my son a present when he was discharged. Kara Meunier was also amazing and helped facilitate our son's readmission after he stopped breathing two days after discharge. As difficult as our time was there, she, Michelle, Eileen and many others made it a better experience than we expected. They were our family for the 80 days we were there and we'll never forget their kindness and expertise as they helped our son grow and thrive."

“I had such an amazing team at Albany Med during my week stay. I showed up with scares during my pregnancy and had to be there to deliver my premature daughter. My husband and family were terrified not knowing what was in store for us. I had preclamsia and no understanding of what or how this happened. During my stay I had amazing nurses that I became very close with on the labor floor. Cindy was one nurse. She comforted me like my own mother. I wish I could find her today just to tell her how special she was. She worked extra hours JUST to stay by my side. Another nurse was Julie. She was so funny and took all my pain away I couldn't ask for more. Mary was this sweet little woman who took care of me as well and was so very sweet to me and my family and explained everything that was happening. Yasmine was there for the birth of my baby. Held me every step of the way, tended to every one of my needs. I came to Albany Med so scared and without them I don't know how I got through what I did. Last but not least – the NICU nurses. We were there a month with our daughter. They all were super nice and helped us in so many ways. I became close to them, as well. Terra was super with our daughter. Answered all my questions I had. This was all new to me at the time and she gave me so much comfort. Everyone at Albany Med was amazing. I can't tell you in words just how nice everyone was to me and my family. I think of them every time I look at my daughter, pictures and videos. I may not know last names… but they have a major place in my heart.”

“My daughter was born at 33 weeks. She had a two- week stay in the NICU. Karen Nieto was her nurse the whole time she was there. We learned so much from her and all the other nurses who helped us. Ten years later, we still send a picture for the wall. We are indebted to the wonderful staff. Since then, we have been back a few times for her cleft lip surgeries. Each time, we visited the NICU to say hi. The staff on the peds floor was amazing. We all worked together to make her comfortable. AMC nurses are so dear to us.”

“Our oldest child had the support of Albany Medical Center nurses for seven days in the Peds ICU last June! Dr. Carl preformed spinal surgery to correct her severe scoliosis, but it was the tender care and casual humor of her nurses who got her through it with her spirit intact. Fortunately, their amazing medical expertise supported the physical healing! Thanks Albany Med!”

“Every single nurse who helped our son from the ER, surgery, PACU, and PICU were so kind and compassionate. They made a scary experience manageable and were very accommodating to the fact that I had a newborn along with my 2 year-old. It was refreshing after being treated poorly and misdiagnosed at another hospital before being rushed to Albany.”

"When I came to Albany Med with our daughter, everything was so overwhelming. She stayed a few days in the NICU and then spent the remainder of her stay in PICU. All of the nurses in PICU are amazing and truly compassionate. Each time we have stayed in the PICU with our daughter (she has had 3 open heart surgeries and will have at least two more), I am truly amazed at the difference between those nurses as compared to any other nurses we have had. It's never easy to be with a loved one in the hospital but when you're staying at Albany Med the nurses make things so much easier. The two nurses who stand out in my mind are Michelle and Christie. I know there are some names I'm leaving out but our last stay was in 2008! God knew what he was doing when he directed us to Albany Med!"

Cheryl Clow, Timothy Nevinger, Emo Castle, Kim Argentine Montelone, Jennifer Nichols, Maude… so many more. AMC nurses are the best!”

“I honestly don't know what we would have done if we didn't have Chuck as our primary NICU nurse! He took exceptional care of our boys (as well as us) and went above and beyond the call of duty by dressing up as Santa and the Easter Bunny so that our boys could enjoy their first big holidays both in and out of the NICU! We consider him a part of our family (Uncle Chuck) and can't thank him enough for everything he has done for us!”

“I had been in and out of Albany Med since August 2013 until finally coming home at the end of January. There were so many great nurses along the way...E8 was the floor I was on the longest. I was in ICU also...amazing staff!”

Timothy Nevinger has been a tremendous help and so kind and knowledgeable for us. We love him.”

“Nurse Linda in the NICU is the most caring, thoughtful nurse I have ever come across in my life! She worked with my son through a 72-hour cold cap treatment and the rest of his two week stay in the NICU in November 2011. Don't know how I would have made it through that ordeal without her! I thank my lucky stars for the amazing medical staff the NICU has. If not for them, I do not believe my son would be here today.”

“All the nurses on D7N, Melodies Clinic, and PICU, thank you for all your help and support over the last year, plus! You all took such wonderful care of my daughter during her treatment and post treatment, and I truly cannot thank you enough! You are all amazing! She is now healthy and happy and you are all a huge part of that! Thank you again!”

“My son was six days old when he had his first open heart corrective surgery for truncus arteriosus and his second repair at five years old. It is because of the NICU (specifically Christine Lubowski-Helm), PICU (specifically Missy Schreifels), doctor Neil Devejian and Jesus Christ that my son lives. Special thanks to these angels on earth!”

Beth LaFountain was there for me, my father and my family through the hardest week of my life, the end of my father's struggle with MDS and the loss of his life. She kept us informed through every stage and worked tirelessly first to save him and then to make his passing comfortable. Her compassion and understanding went well above and beyond. As a nurse myself, I found her energy, sympathy and compassion unending.”

“To every nurse in the cardiac cath unit – I’m so grateful to you all. AMC angels saved my husband Jim's life in July 2009.”

“I had surgery three years ago and needed to get an endoscopy prior to it. I was getting ready for the endoscopy and was beyond nervous about everything. There was a head nurse named Jodi who sat with me and comforted me. She also found out when my surgery was and made sure I had a great anesthesiologist for it. The day of my surgery the man came in and said that Jodi told him to take good care of me. At that moment I knew everything would be fine. I think about how kind and compassionate she and anesthesiologist were. They really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable during a difficult time in my life. I speak so highly of AMC and am thankful for their caring nurses.”

“To all the nurses on the Renal Transplant Floor: Each of them have taken care of my son when we had to revisit the hospital after his second kidney transplant. I cannot pick just one, I have to pick each and every one of them.”

“When my son was six days old he was rushed to AMC for emergency surgery. We arrived and went straight to the NICU. We were terrified of what was going to happen with our little boy. Nurse Mandy Koennecke was there to calm us and help us in any way possible. Over the next six days we encountered many wonderful people, but Mandy stood out above the rest. She will always have a very special place in our hearts. Thank you Mandy for being so amazing!”

“…all the nurses at oncology peds and D7N are the best! What loving care my two daughters received for years while fighting acute myeloid leukemia. Thank you most sincerely years later from a thankful mom!”

“My daughter and I spent several weeks in different stays at AMC - SICU and PICU and the Neuro unit and we absolutely loved our nurse angels. They are the ones who are doing the patient care 24/7 and keep the doctors on their toes! God bless all of you for the very important work you do.”

“All of the nurses in the NICU, especially Cassie Wellhausen! She was our son's primary and is amazing. She went above and beyond for our son and us.”
