Our Donor Stories - David Falk, MD

It was quite simple – young David Falk was out of money.

“I came up short. I didn’t have it.”

That was 1938, when he could not afford the balance of his undergraduate tuition. His school offered help.

“That was very impressive to me.”

David Falk, MD ’43, of Palm Springs, CA, never forgot that day, making it his goal to support students feeling the financial pressures of higher education as soon as he was able.

Dr. David Falk
The generosity of David Falk, MD, has provided scholarship support  for many Albany Medical College students.
Dr. Falk and his wife Elynor first established the Harold C. Wiggers Endowed Scholarship fund in 1975. That was only the beginning of their generosity toward Albany Med – their gifts now total nearly $7 million.

In 2012, he established two additional endowed funds with a gift of $2.5 million. To recognize Albany Med’s outstanding leadership, he created the James J. and Rose A. Barba Endowed Education Fund and the Vincent P. Verdile Chair of Emergency Medicine.

"Dr. Falk’s personal support has helped develop some of our top medical minds," said Christopher King, MD, who will be first to hold the title of Vincent P. Verdile Chair of Emergency Medicine at Albany Med. "Those inquisitive minds of our medical students combine with the expertise of our faculty physicians to create more ideas for improving patient care."

"I like the idea of inspiring others to make their own gifts," Dr. Falk said. "I encourage them to join me in guaranteeing students receive a superior medical education."

Dr. Falk’s support has created innumerable opportunities for medical professionals, past and present. The example he has set ensures those opportunities continue far into Albany Med’s future.
