Twinspirational Teen Philanthropists 
Honor Children’s Hospital
Rather than accept gifts for their 13th birthday, Brianna and Vincenzo Ferraro asked family and friends to support the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. Their donation totaled over $500 and is dedicated to the memory of their cousin, Tanner Zullo, who passed away from leukemia at 18 months old.
Million Gift
Matthew Bender IV, longtime Albany Medical Center board member and volunteer, has committed $1 million to the institution to support Albany Medical College. The gift will be used to further support the Bender Endowed Chair in Neurology and the Bender Family Minority Scholarship. This is Bender’s second million dollar gift to the Medical Center in less than a decade.
Ray of Hope Benefit Raises Over $100,000 for Parkinson’s Disease
Over 200 people gathered at Albany’s Fort Orange Club on April 24, to attend Albany Med’s inaugural “Ray of Hope” benefit. The event raised over $100,000 in support of The Chris DiNapoli Parkinson’s Research Endowment benefiting the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center at Albany Medical Center. Five dedicated women and friends of Chris DiNapoli founded this event with Chris to honor her years of living with Parkinson’s and to keep much-needed Parkinson’s disease research money in the Capital Region.

On August 2, 2008, the Smolnik’s daughter thought she would have to postpone her wedding day after learning that her fiancé was rushed to Albany Med following a serious car accident. But the caring staff in the Emergency Department rose to the occasion by offering to host an abbreviated ceremony on the spot so the couple could begin their life together as planned.
