Serving the community in a new state-of-the-art patient-centered facility with a breadth of services that only an academic medical center can provide.
As you enter the New Scotland Avenure cooridor, you will see a number of expansion projects underway at Albany Med. The centerpiece of our expansion effort is a $360 million Patient Pavilion, opened in 2013.
The Expansion by Numbers:
$360 million expansion project
42 percent increase in number of inpatients since 2001, from 24,311 to 34,623 in 2012
More than 35,000 admissions expected by 2013
Nearly 8,500 transfers to Albany Med from other hospitals - all time high
The largest hospital expansion project ever undertaken in northeastern New York, the 325,000 square foot Patient Pavilion expands the hospital’s number of beds to 734 and includes new operating and recovery rooms, as well as cutting-edge intensive care units for both infants and adults. The building is connected to the main hospital and to a new 1,500-car parking garage and office building. These new patient care areas and expanded capacity will help cement our position as the leading provider of quality health care in northeastern New York.
Albany Medical Center has also partnered with the City of Albany, Columbia Development and BBL Construction Services in the revitalization of the northwestern end of New Scotland Avenue. As a result, the Patient Pavilion is surrounded by four other new office buildings constructed in the past few years by private developers that include office, educational and medical space for Albany Med, and administrative offices for the Albany Stratton VA Hospital, as well as retail space for several businesses and banks that have moved into the area.
These projects blend the practical needs of the community with the business
needs of Albany Med.
