Our AMBI Fall 2010 term is underway!  The term began on Monday, August 16th.  We have a great new class of Certificate and Masters students, as well as wonderful returning students participating this term.

AMBI Director Calls for Clinical Ethics Training Program Accreditation

Bruce D. White, DO, JD, has called for a meeting of clinical ethics program directors on October 22, 2010, during the annual meeting of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) to discuss the notion of establishing accreditation council for graduate bioethics education.

2010 AMBI Clinical Ethics Conference – November 19, 2010
This year the Alden March Bioethics Institute of Albany Medical College will be hosting its first Clinical Ethics Conference on Friday, November 19, 2010.  The 2010 AMBI Clinical Ethics Conference is a conference in which keynote speakers, guest faculty and conference participants gather at the Alden March Bioethics Institute for a full day of engaging discussions and breakout sessions revolving around a single theme.

Wayne Shelton, PhD, New Publication
Wayne Shelton, PhD, was lead author on a recent paper published in Critical Care Medicine. The study examined the effect of adding a full-time family support coordinator to the surgical intensive care unit team on family satisfaction, length-of-stay, and cost in the surgical intensive care unit.

David Lemberg, MS, a graduate of the Alden March Bioethics Institute entered and placed in the top three in the American College of Legal Medicine’s 2010 Hoffman Bioethics Writing Competition.

D. Micah Hester is Associate Professor of Medical Humanities and Pediatrics at UAMS, as well as clinical ethicist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH).  Dr. Hester has published eight books and dozens of journal articles.

Catherine Frenkel, a 3rd year medical student and Scholar in Bioethics, was 1 of 11 medical students and residents chosen in a national competition to design, develop, and edit a monthly issue of Virtual Mentor, American Medical Association journal of medical ethics.

Dr. White Named Director of Albany Med’s Alden March Bioethics Institute
ALBANY, N.Y., February 10, 2010— Bruce D. White, D.O., J.D., has been named director of the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College. Dr. White also holds the John A. Balint, M.D., Chair of Medical Ethics and is a professor of pediatrics at the medical school. He comes to Albany from Phoenix where he served as chairman of the department of pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and directed the clinical ethics fellowship.
