AMBI graduate Ali Naquvi, JD, MS, has his own healthcare consulting firm called Meditors and is currently putting a writing team together to write two textbooks for a client that caters to the community college market, i.e., Intro to Biology and Intro to Anatomy & Physiology. And they liked his work at Legal Trends in Bioethics so much that when the Editor of the journal left in February, Dr. Sigrid Fry-Revere offered him the position and he accepted! AMBI Student has Paper Accepted
Jacob Appel, MD, has had a paper accepted at Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics. His paper, "Privacy vs. History: How far should the dead hand reach?" explores the question of determining the ethical limitations of scientific research on the remains of long-dead subjects. He began work on this paper in AMBI 507 "Classic Cases in Bioethics" taught by Professor Wayne Shelton during the fall 2010 term.

AMBI Student Appointed Assistant Clinical Dean at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine
We have learned that AMBI student, Joseph R. Maldonado, Jr, MD, MBA, DipEBHC, has been named Assistant Clinical Dean at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York. In three weeks he will lecture the MSc students with an Introduction to Bioethics. After that, he will finish his bioethics paper for the MS in Bioethics from Albany Medical College.

AMBI Director Bruce D. White – along with Drs. Robert Baker (Union Graduate College/Mt. Sinai School of Medicine), Jeffrey P. Bishop (St. Louis University), Colleen M. Gallagher (M.D. Anderson Cancer Center), and Gerald Magill (Duquesne University), and others – have finalized plans for a meeting on October 22, 2010, during the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities annual meeting in San Diego, to discuss the possibility of creating a council for the accreditation of graduate clinical ethics education. The Alden March Bioethics Institute (AMBI) at Albany Medical College, Albany New York invites applications for a tenure track associate professor or professor level position. The successful candidate will join multidisciplinary colleagues from several fields, including medicine, nursing, ethics, law, policy, and biomedical and social sciences who engage in empirical research, in teaching bioethics to medical students and health care professionals, in providing clinical ethics consultation services, and in teaching in a growing online graduate bioethics program with a focus on clinical ethics.
Candidates should have an MD (or comparable professional degree), a JD, or a doctorate in a field related to bioethics such as philosophy, nursing, law, the social sciences, health services research, or public health as well as substantial training and experience in clinical ethics, or in bioethics and medical humanities education for health care professionals and medical students.

ALBANY, N.Y., February 10, 2010— Bruce D. White, D.O., J.D., has been named director of the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College. Dr. White also holds the John A. Balint, M.D., Chair of Medical Ethics and is a professor of pediatrics at the medical school. He comes to Albany from Phoenix where he served as chairman of the department of pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and directed the clinical ethics fellowship.
