The following is a list of awards presented by The Sosa Academy.  Bulleted items list the criteria used in the peer-reviewed selection process.

Faculty Teaching Scholar Award

  • Teaching effectiveness based on feedback from learners, house officers, fellow and/or peers
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Presentation of material at an appropriate level of rigor
  • Capacity to inspire and promote intellectual development
  • Exceptional communications skills
  • Ability to instill interest and enthusiasm for the subject
  • Skill in working effectively one: one and/or in a team
  • Demonstration of concern for learner’s progress
  • Characteristics as a role model

Outstanding Mentor Award

  • Track record of graduates who achieve success
  • Passion energy and commitment to learners
  • Noteworthy dedication to learners’ personal and professional development
  • Ability to connect learners’ to opportunities where they can progress
  • History of providing tools and resources to develop learners’ professional independence
  • Characteristics as a role model
  • Demonstration of concern for learners progress
  • Ability to bring learners’ goals into focus by questioning and guiding

New Teacher Award

  • A faculty member who has been at Albany Medical College for 5 years or less
  • The nominee should be a member of the faculty at the Assistant Professor level
  • Teaching effectiveness based on feedback from learners, house officers, fellows and/or peers
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Presentation of material at an appropriate level of rigor
  • Capacity to inspire and promote intellectual development
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to instill interest and enthusiasm for the subject
  • Skill in working effectively 1:1 and/or in a team
  • Demonstration of concern for learners’ progress
  • Characteristics as a role model

Educational Development and Innovation Award

  • Development of new modalities of teaching or presentation of curricular material that are more efficient and enhances a learners ability to understand presented information
  • Ability to establish the innovative process within the educational program curriculum
  • Documentation that the new modality or innovation has advantages over previous systems or processes used in a college educational program. These advantages include learner acceptance of the process, enhancement of the understanding of the material presented, and the increased efficiency learning by the use of the new or innovative processes.
  • Preference will be given to Nominees whose full-time job requirements are not centered on curriculum development an implementation.
