Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program
The Cardiothoracic Residency Training Program is composed of two years of clinical training that is required for board eligibility in thoracic surgery. Within the Division's educational curriculum, medical students rotate on the thoracic surgery service. In addition to informal didactic teaching sessions for medical students, there is a busy teaching conference schedule administered by the division that includes weekly conferences i.e. grand rounds (CME approved), case presentations, journal club, morbidity and mortality, and SESAT reviews. The Multidisciplinary Intercity Chest conference and pediatric cardiac teaching conference are held on a weekly basis.
The Division hosts two annual lectureships: the David S. Sheridan Visiting Professorship in Anesthesiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Related Pathology, co-sponsored with the Department of Anesthesiology, and the Adrian Ehler lectureship is held in memory of the founder of cardiothoracic surgery in Albany. These provide an opportunity for lecturers of national recognition to visit Albany and share their expertise with attending staff, residents and medical students.
The busy clinical and research activities provide a fertile and stimulating environment for education.
