Electrodiagnosis

The Department recognizes the responsibility to ensure that residents have the opportunity to participate in at least 200 electrodiagnostic studies. Residents should have no trouble participating in 200 electrodiagnostic studies during the course of their residency training.

Each resident at the PGY-2 level is assigned to participate in one study per week. At the PGY-3 level, the residents will spend six months at the VAMC. Residents at the PGY-4 level spend another six months at the VAMC. The department at the AMC has two EMG clinics per week with two to three patients scheduled at each clinic.

Residents at the PGY-3 and PGY-4 levels who are assigned to the VAMC are both expected to attend those clinics, to see the patients together and to share the studies. At the PGY-4 level, residents spend five months at the outpatient facility of the Albany Medical Center. Dr. Forrest and Dr. Dubin are both board certified by the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.  They perform 10-20 studies per week.
