The residency program directors are advised by a Resident Education Committee, which includes faculty, volunteer clinical faculty, and representatives from all four years of the residency. All policies must be approved by the Resident Education Committee. Residents have a major role in these decisions.
Undergraduate Education
Undergraduate Education has the responsibility for the first-year reproductive and developmental biology theme, the second-year human reproduction theme, the third-year clinical clerkship, and the senior electives. Residents have significant responsibilities in academic and clinical teaching of students and in the evaluation of student performance. Two of our chief residents have won Golden Apple Awards within the past three years for their teaching skills.
Continuing Medical Education
- Donald P. Swartz, M.D., Director
- Sabrina Hussain, M.D., Assistant Director
This section actively coordinates all the CME activities of the Department. Visiting lecturers, grand rounds, teaching days, and the annual Stratton Mountain Clinical Update in Obstetrics and Gynecology are all planned through this office.
Quality Management and Statistics
- Robert H. Dropkin, M.D., Gynecologic Practice
- W. Bruce Clark, M.D., Obstetrics Practice
Quality management activities have an important role within the Department. Resident involvement is part of the educational program, especially in the third and fourth years. Residents function as part of the obstetrical and gynecologic practice review committees and carry out chart review for morbidity and mortality conferences. Individual resident research involving quality of care issues is encouraged.
