The Department of Pediatrics consists of about 40 full-time faculty in general pediatrics and the various subspecialties, as well as allied specialties. They serve as the full-time teaching staff of the Children's Hospital at
The Children's Hospital has over 2,000 admissions each year. Its generalists and subspecialists provide care at over 30,000 outpatient visits annually. It has a Level III regional perinatal care center, a sophisticated pediatric intensive care unit, and the region's only programs in child cancer, pediatric AIDS, and cystic fibrosis.
The Department of Medicine
The Department of Medicine has over 70 full-time faculty members. The general internists schedule more than 11,500 annual outpatient visits and maintain busy inpatient and consult services. The subspecialists receive over 37,500 outpatient referrals annually, in addition to providing an extensive range of hospital consult services. During subspecialty electives, Med-Ped residents are involved in both the outpatient and inpatient aspects of subspecialty medicine. The Department of Medicine maintains the region's only comprehensive hemophilia program and bone marrow transplantation program.
