Meet Our Faculty and Staff
Hamish A. Kerr, MBChB, MSc, Program Director
Dr. Kerr is a graduate of the Albany Medical College combined Medicine-Pediatrics program and a former Chief Resident for Pediatrics. He returns to the area after completing two years of training in Sports Medicine. The first of these years was spent back in his native country Scotland, where he served as the team physician for the men's youth and women's national soccer teams. He then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at Children's Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Kerr previously served as the Associate Program Director for the Division of Medicine-Pediatrics and is currently involved in injury surveillance research, as well as, serving as a team physician for the Athletics Department at Siena College in Loudonville, New York.
Elizabeth Higgins, MD
Dr. Higgins is a native of the Capital Region and a graduate of SUNY Syracuse. After completing her residency in the combined Medicine-Pediatrics program at Albany Medical College she joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She is board certified in both disciplines. Her interests include Adolescent Medicine and Women?s Health. Dr. Higgins also serves as the Associate Dean for the Office of Academic and Student Services.
Jennifer Lindstrom, MD, Associate Program Director
After graduating from the University of Rochester, Dr. Lindstrom came to Albany to complete her training in Medicine-Pediatrics. She served as Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Lindstrom joined the faculty as a Research Clinician in 2004 and conducted a research project on ?Childhood Obesity? under a grant from the State of New York. She is also involved in the Albany Medical Center?s Comprehensive Obesity Treatment Center while teaching and maintaining a practice at the Latham site.
Tricia Pelnik-Fecko, MD
Originally from Utica, Dr. Pelnik completed her undergraduate work at Boston College. She completed her residency in combined Medicine-Pediatrics program at Albany Medical Center after receiving her MD from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Pelnik also has special training in cosmetic skin care including laser skin treatments and has established a special practice in this area at the Latham site. She is in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA and enjoys running and spending time with her family.
Gina Garrison PharmD
Dr. Garrison is a native of the Capital Region and completed her PharmD at the Albany College of Pharmacy where she now holds a faculty appointment. Her clinical practice is located in Latham in our Medicine-Pediatrics office. She and her students assist patients, residents, faculty and staff with pharmacy questions and issues.
Paul Clay Sorum, MD
Dr. Sorum received his MD at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and also holds a PhD in history from Harvard University. Board certified in both specialties, he is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics. Dr. Sorum has multiple published articles in National and International publications.
Joseph Wayne, MD
Dr. Wayne received his MD from SUNY Buffalo and completed his Medicine-Pediatrics residency at St. Louis University. After repaying his commitment to the National Health Service Corps, Dr. Wayne pursued a career in practicing and teaching primary care Medicine and Pediatrics. Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, his interests include asthma, preventive health care, and the application of evidenced-based medical knowledge to patient care. Dr. Wayne plays an active role in the Albany Medical College and is the Clerkship Director for Internal Medicine.
Kathleen Zabinski, MD
After graduating from Albany Medical College, Dr. Zabinski completed her training in the Medicine-Pediatrics program at Albany Medical College. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and has been a practicing full-time clinician for over a decade. Her clinical areas of interest include behavioral disorders, adolescent medicine and preventive health care.
Lisann Verrico MD
Dr. Verrico joined the Medicine-Pediatrics practice in 2006 after working as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Washington University. She received her MD from Brown University and received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University. Dr. Verrico also serves as the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Albany Medical College.
