Nearly 40 percent of the physicians practicing in New York's state's Capital Region either did their residency at the Albany Medical Center Hospital or attended the Albany Medical College. This network offers residents a wide range of educational opportunities. The residency educational programs at Albany Medical Center are affiliated with:

Albany Medical Center
Albany Medical Center is the major referral center in northeastern New York and west-central New England, serving a 24-county area encompassing 2 million people. Albany Medical Center includes the 674-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital and is the only academic health science center in northeastern New York.

Samuel S. Stratton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DVA)
Located across the street from Albany Medical Center, the 634-bed DVA is a well-equipped facility that offers a wide variety of educational experience. Residents in family practice, medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, pathology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, radiology and surgery rotate through this facility.

St. Peter's Hospital
This 447-bed community hospital is located approximately two miles from the Albany Medical Center. Many resident rotations are offered and include obstetrics, medicine, surgery (general, plastic, orthopedic and thoracic), family practice, otolaryngology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC)
The Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC), a facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health, is a 225-bed institution located adjacent to the Albany Medical Center. CDPC offers mental health services for adults and children from a nine-county area. Residents in both psychiatry and child psychiatry receive a portion of their training at CDPC.

Child's Hospital
Nearby Child's Hospital is a modern, well-equipped 20-bed facility where residency rotation in otolaryngology and plastic surgery, as well as rotations through the ambulatory surgery program, are offered.

Ellis Hospital
Located in Schenectady approximately 30 minutes from the Albany Medical Center, Ellis Hospital is a 352-bed community hospital that also is building new facilities. Resident rotations offered include neurology, obstetric, and gynecology, orthopedic surgery, and internal medicine on an ambulatory care basis.

Sunnyview Hospital and Rehabilitation Center
This 101-bed facility serves patients who have disabling illnesses and injuries that require rehabilitative care. Both orthopedic and physical medicine residents receive part of their training Sunnyview, which is adjacent to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Memorial Hospital
Memorial Hospital is located on Albany's northern rim about two miles from Albany Medical Center. Urology residents rotate through this 233-bed community hospital.

Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital
Located 75 miles west of Albany in historic Cooperstown, this 180 bed teaching hospital maintains affiliations with Albany Medical Center and Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Ophthalmology residents receive part of their training here.
