On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Neurology at Albany Medical Center, I would like to thank you for your interest in our Vascular Neurology fellowship. This is a one year, ACGME accredited fellowship with training in early treatment and prevention of stroke, application of modern neuroimaging techniques including CT Angiography and Perfusion, MRI Diffusion and Perfusion Imaging, Doppler ultrasonography, neurocritical care, and stroke rehabilitation. Fellows who successfully complete this program are eligible to sit for the sub-specialty board examination in Vascular Neurology (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology).
Albany Medical Center has been lauded by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for leading the nation in following evidence-based guidelines for patients with heart failure, coronary artery disease and stroke. By receiving Annual Performance Achievement Awards in all three categories, Albany Med becomes only one of three hospitals in New York State and thirteen in the nation to receive this distinction under the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association's Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) program. In addition, it is one of three hospitals in New York State to receive a National Top 100 Stroke Hospital Award. The Lally Neurological Observation/Stroke Unit is a 14-bed unit with sophisticated monitoring for acute stroke patients and our 15 bed Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit is for treatment of highest acuity neurologically-injured patients including stroke.
