Albany Medical Center
Albany Medical Center is a 651 bed hospital which is the main teaching hospital of the Albany Medical College.  It serves as the trauma center and tertiary care center for the Capital Region of New York State and also as the primary care center for most of the indigent population of this region. It is the only level 1 trauma center, the only tertiary care center, and the only academic medical center in the region of upstate New York that encompasses 22 counties.

The College has 270 physicians on the full-time faculty, and the residents in PM&R have the opportunity to participate with patients of primary care physicians and all medical and surgical subspecialties.

The Albany Medical Center has a 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, and the Department of PM&R provides consultations to all of the clinical departments.  The Department has a large freestanding outpatient center, the Albany Rehabilitation Center. The Center is six minutes from the hospital. Senior residents rotate through the center and have the opportunity to participate in the evaluation and treatment of a large variety of musculoskeletal and sports rehabilitation injuries, as well as perform EMG's and nerve blocks.

Residents at the Medical Center have the opportunity to attend a wide variety of clinical conferences in the Department of PM&R and related departments. Attending rounds are held daily on the inpatient unit.  The attending physician covering the Rehabilitation Unit and the consultation service meets with residents daily to discuss referrals.  X-ray rounds are held weekly.  At this time the residents and faculty review interesting x-rays of patients seen during the previous week.  Every Wednesday and Thursday mornings, residents participate in the Department's general outpatient clinic to see patients referred for evaluation by other departments and by community agencies.  Residents attend Amputee Clinic once a month at AMC.  Residents have the opportunity to attend the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic sponsored by the Neurology Department.  PGY 3 residents spend one afternoon a month at a prosthetic/orthotic facility.
 

Stratton V.A. Medical Center
The Veteran's Hospital provides the resident with a very varied exposure to PM&R. The Department maintains a 20-bed inpatient unit.  The Department provides consultations to all other clinical departments.  Residents are expected to participate in orthopedic as well as PM&R outpatient clinics.  The Department of PM&R at V.A.M.C. has a large referral base for electrodiagnostic testing and it is not unusual for a resident to participate in more than 100 electrodiagnostic examinations while on rotation at the V.A.M.C..

EMG clinics are held two mornings per week and general ambulatory clinics four half days per week. Amputee clinic is held once a month. The Stratton V.A. has two full time physicians in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

The Center for the Disabled
The Center for the disabled offers a wide range of medical, educational, vocational, residential, and respite services to 15,000 clients and their families. The Center offers services to children with identified or suspected disabilities.  Children from birth to five years are evaluated at this Center and its satellite stations.  Therapy services are provided at the offices of Center and in the homes of the clients. The Center sponsors a school and therapies for children aged five to 21 who are disabled.  The Center has special medical clinics in the fields of pediatrics, neurology, orthopaedics, dentistry, plastic surgery, and primary care. 

The residents will work with Dr. Aldam in the Physiatry Clinic which serves children and adults with developmental disabilities.  There is also a wheelchair evaluation component.  The Clover Patch United Cerebral Palsy center in Glenville serves preschool children with developmental disabilities. There, residents rotate with Dr. Aldam every 3 months for a full day clinic.

Northwoods Rehabilitation Center

The Bone and Joint Center in Albany was established to bring together the expertise and services needed to effectively treat common and complex musculoskeletal disorders. It is a single source for comprehensive care by some of the region's most highly regarded board-certified medical specialists in the areas of orthopaedic surgery, rheumatology, neurology, physical medicine and radiology.

The Center also includes the services of licensed health care professionals in the areas of physical therapy as well as prosthetics and orthotics. The staff works together in a uniquely collegial atmosphere, so patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to care.  The PGY 4 resident will see outpatients with Dr. Dubin at the Bone and Joint Center.
