Why Albany Med?
The reasons are as diverse and wide-ranging as our body of residents/fellows.  Each has a particular reason for choosing this exceptional institution and below are a selection of testimonials from some of our residents/fellows.

Mary Fay, M.D.
PGY-1 Pediatric Resident

When choosing a pediatric residency program, I was looking for a non-competitive environment where I could learn from physicians and staff who truly loved to teach and enjoyed coming to work to help children. It was also important to me to obtain a well-rounded general pediatric knowledge so I would feel comfortable when I am one day out on my own. Additionally, I wanted to be surrounded by those who continually educated themselves so I in turn learned to educate myself throughout my career. I chose Albany Med because I spent time here as a student and the aspects of the program that they highlighted during the interview, I experienced myself.

I had heard you get "that feeling" when you find a program that is best for you, and I found that here.

Rehman Chowdhry, M.D.
PGY-1 Pediatric  Resident

Driving through a heavy winter storm to Albany Med for the very first time, I remember searching through my mind for fresh ways to impress.

Sadly, my stock of canned anecdotes went unheard. Knowing little about the actual program, I was immediately drawn by the energy of Pediatric Residency staff, the professionalism of the ancillary staff, and the wealth of learning opportunities everywhere I investigated. As I work my way through my intern year, I am more confident every day that I made the right decision to train in Albany.

Aleesha Zysik, M.D.
PGY-2 Pediatric Resident

During my final year of medical school I became faced with the decision of where I would like to spend the next three years of my training. Being from a small town on the Canadian border of New York and having spent quite a significant amount of time abroad during my educational years, I finally realized the importance of living in closer proximity to family. Additionally, with my nerves already taking a toll in anticipation of the grueling schedule that had been described of residency, I sought a program that was not only family-friendly (as I had no children but a dog and my husband at the same time applying for a Med-Ped position), but that also supported having a life outside of work. I knew residency was going to be tough no matter where I landed, but that the specific location (Albany being a nice area to live, close to family, and an outlet to many recreational activities) and people (the pediatric department's faculty and staff is exceptional) were two critical factors in how I would get through those years.

Now that I have completed my first year, I can say with certainty that Albany is where I belong. The attendings here are extremely personable and always available to offer advice and assistance. The teaching is equally noteworthy. The residents are allowed ample opportunities to make decisions while never feeling that there is not help nearby. Additionally, the program has selected an amazing group of individuals, all competent and demonstrating a willingness to lend a hand whenever the occasion arises. Most importantly, I have been able to keep in close contact with my loved ones and on the lighter months enjoy this page in my life, which are the greatest achievements.

Benjamin Infantino, M.D.
PGY-2 Pediatric Resident

I have interviewed at several Pediatric Residency programs in the Northeast. None of them compared in terms of the size and diversity of the patient population covered by Albany Medical Center. The comprehensive spectrum of services offered by this program enables a resident to either enter into primary care as a well-rounded attending or to move on to subspecialty training with a solid general pediatrics foundation. The friendly and supportive learning environment at Albany Med allows residents to confidently become the physicians they want to be.

Mundeep Kainth, D.O.
PGY-3 Pediatric Resident

Albany Medical Center is all about the people. Our clinical mentors guide us during residency, and love to teach. The administrative staff are friendly and always helpful. And the capital region's diverse patient population provides many opportunities for learning. Ultimately, our direct, hands-on training offers a substantial skill set for your future practice as a pediatrician and beyond!

William Fredette, M.D.
PGY-3 Pediatric Resident

As a non-traditional med school grad and father of three, I chose Albany Medical Center's pediatrics residency for its human scale. This is a large hospital, where we practice state-of-the-art medicine on patients from a huge geographic region, yet the attending physicians know all of the residents personally, the residents are very collegial and the program respects the personal and family needs of its participants. I've been happy with my choice and feel well prepared to enter practice after my three years at Albany Med.
