Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

An accredited four year residency in combined anatomic and clinical pathology. The program provides broad, diverse training in all aspects of anatomic and clinical pathology. The training in anatomic pathology includes autopsy and surgical pathology, cytopathology dermatopathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, molecular diagnostics, renal pathology, electron microscopy, forensic pathology and immunopathology. The program in clinical pathology provides training in clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, blood banking, clinical immunology, toxicology, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, hemostasis, laboratory management and informatics. The research program of the department emphasizes cancer molecular biology. Residents are expected to assume graduated professional responsibilities consistent with their level of experience and training. The fully integrated program requires residents to accumulate 24 months of training in both anatomic and clinical pathology. This includes 18 months of core rotations in each field. The remaining 12 months of training typically includes electives and research.
