Second, third and fourth year residents present at all interdepartmental conferences, including breast, endocrine, gastrointestinal, thoracic, gynecologic, urologic and hematologic tumor conferences. They also are regular contributors to medicine and pediatric morbidity and mortality conferences.
Visiting Professor Series
Each year the Department's Visiting Professor Series hosts nationally and internationally respected anatomic and clinical pathologists. As part of the visit, each guest conducts a formal lecture and luncheon slide seminar with the residents.
Residents are required to participate in the teaching programs of the department. This ranges from assisting a staff pathologist teaching a medical student laboratory to giving more formal presentations in allied health science courses. In the laboratory teaching setting, the resident assists the medical students with the analysis of cases that are representative of various disease processes. Morphologic changes are correlated with clinical signs, symptoms and laboratory tests.
