We are excited to offer a 12 month fellowship training program in Primary Care Sports Medicine (PCSM) at Albany Medical Center. We are the first PCSM fellowship nationwide to have a Med/Peds background, though are open to applicants from pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine and emergency medicine residents.
The PCSM fellowship has 6 primary care faculty members, plus a large group of sports-trained orthopaedic surgeons at Capital Region Orthopedics. The fellow spends time working with faculty at several sites, including an academic sports medicine practice in Latham, NY; the Capital Region Orthopaedic Associates offices at the Bone & Joint Center in Albany; and the Albany College of Pharmacy Student Health Center. Collegiate athletes are cared for at several sites, including Siena College and University of Albany who both have highly respected Division One programs.
Novel aspects of the Albany Medical Center PCSM fellowship include experiences in the Albany Medical College anatomy lab, biomechanics instruction at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, education in state of the art concussion management and exposure to a high volume of typical musculoskeletal problems. Several faculty are trained in muscoskeletal ultrasound and the fellow gains a high volume of procedures using this modality. We have additional coverage opportunities at local ski mountains during the winter, Lake Placid Ironman medical tent coverage, boxing and martial arts events and team physician duties with USA Rugby.
Please review our fellowship web pages at your leisure, and don’t hesitate to call or email for more information.
