All of our faculty are dedicated to and involved in training quality residents. Our new Lions Eye Institute and our newly renovated VA Eye Clinic provide state of the art equipment and facilities to train our residents. Residents are involved as primary surgeon or as assistant with approximately 1000 eye surgeries performed each year at the Albany Medical Center, the Lions Eye Institute and the VA Hospital. Direct supervision of the residents is provided at all facilities by our full-time faculty.
Our residents take advantage of ongoing research projects or initiate research projects of their own. Residents present their research at our annual Resident Research Conference. Support is available to them to present their work at national meetings.
Didactic lectures and conferences are scheduled throughout the year covering all of the basic science and subspecialty topics in Ophthalmology.
Three applicants are selected yearly for our three year program. We participate in the Ophthalmology Matching Program. All applications should be sent through the Ophthalmology Matching Program's Central Application Service at www.sfmatch.org:
