ABOUT ALBANY
Albany is the capital of New York State and is located centrally within the state. It is a medium sized city with a population approximately 94,000 and a greater metropolitan area of greater than 1,145,000, making it the 51st largest in the United States. Albany has many of the amenities of a larger city, while at the same time remaining more manageable and friendly than many larger cities.
Nearby cultural highlights include the Capital Repertory Theatre, New York State Museum, Albany Institute of History and Art and the Clark Art Institue. Saratoga Springs, NY, which boasts a world class horse racing track and SPAC, host of the New York City Ballet, Philadelphia Orchestra and the Dave Matthews Band among others, is a thirty minute drive. Albany is the summer training camp home of the New York Giants, as well as full-time home of the popular Tri-City Valleycats baseball team, River Rats hockey team, Albany Conquest arena football team and Siena Saints college basketball team.
With the Adirondack, Catskill and Berkshire mountains and lakes all within a 1 hour drive, there is a wealth of outdoors scenery and activities to participate in. Likewise, New York City, Boston and Montreal are all within a 3 hour drive, making for many enjoyable day trips.
