The Q3 Month Switch
Albany Medical Center's Med/Peds Residency Program alternates between Medicine and Pediatric rotations every three months. This allows for greater information retention and seamless exposure to both adults and children, to better reflect future practice. This also enhances both familiarity to attendings and fellow residents. Each of the rotations listed below lasts one month.
The first year is primarily inpatient based with broad exposure to both pediatric and medicine intensive care units. As your progress through the rest of your PGY years, you will take on more elective/subspecialty rotations as well as more specialized experiences such as pediatric transport calls. These calls are during pediatric elective months and involve transferring children by ambulance and at times by helicopter from outside facilities to our Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
