Albany Medical Center provides care in all areas of General Surgery. The faculty of the Division of General Surgery maintain offices within the Medical Center complex enabling ready access of residents to faculty and their clinical activities. Faculty utilize the inpatient, ambulatory surgery, Critical Care unit, Emergency Room, and outpatient clinic areas of Albany Medical Center in performing their clinical, educational, and research activities.
In addition, Albany Medical Center recently completed a $166 million facility development program, resulting in one of the most technologically advanced tertiary care facilities in the nation. The medical center is contiguous with the Albany Medical College, which houses state-of-the art educational and research facilities. An integrated, multidisciplinary simulation center is now available as well. The Patient Safety and Clinical Competency Center provides simulation resources for students, residents, and faculty in a 12,000-square-foot center with the latest technology.
A $360 million expansion project has been completed. This new Patient Pavilion includes a 6-story complex with an additional 20 operating rooms. $42 million will support the Institute for Biomedical Education and Research, which is intended to increase scientific productivity, create additional research opportunities and enhance the rapidly growing biotech industry throughout the region. In addition, a Hilton Garden Inn has been completed across the street from the hospital which will serve patients and their families, as well as accommodate visiting professors and prospective students and residents. With all necessary equipment located right on campus, our program offers the most up-to-date learning experience available.
Samuel Stratton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center provides additional training in all aspects of General Surgery. Faculty at this facility hold appointments as full time members of the Albany Medical College and the Division of General Surgery.

St. Peter’s Hospital is a large community hospital at which our residents rotate for training in General Thoracic Surgery.
The affiliated hospitals are proximate, enabling ready attendance at all educational conferences and other activities of the residency program.
