Welcome
Hello. As current Chief Residents we would like to welcome all incoming residents and applicants. The surgical program at Albany Medical Center provides excellent training in General Surgery. Residents usually work one-on-one with surgeons specializing in breast, colon and rectal, minimally invasive, pediatric, oncologic, transplant, trauma, and vascular surgery. The residents also have a superior operative experience in all areas of General Surgery. Chief Residents graduates with over 1000 cases, with over 350 cases performed during the Chief Resident year. These cases range from open hernia repair to living-related renal transplant to laparoscopic gastric bypass for obesity to Whipple resection for pancreatic lesions. All residents are first exposed to operative surgery in their Intern year with increasing levels of responsibility throughout training. The vast majority of General Surgery cases are performed by the resident with the Attending Surgeons assisting, providing instruction and feedback. Our graduates over the past 5 years have had a 100% pass rate on the American Board of Surgery qualifying exam and certifying examinations and have placed in desirable fellowship positions around the country.
Please feel free to contact us or any other of the residents if you have any further questions about our training program.
