We have created a modern Emergency Department capable of supporting our commitment to patient care and education. The department is a state-of-the-art 21,500 square foot, 54-bed facility. We have full radiology service, including helical CT scanning, within the ED. Three ultrasound machines are available within the department for bedside use, and are used by residents from the beginning of training. Computerized patient tracking and radiology contribute to patient care and communication. There are ample reference resources for patient care and education.
We strive for an efficient environment for learning and for patient care. Ancillary services such as lab, x-ray, ECG, respiratory therapy, and social work are readily available. Dedicated, highly trained nurses and excellent clerical staff assure that resident time is devoted to education and patient care, not transportation and phlebotomy.
A dedicated pediatric Emergency Department is currently planned and will be completed in the next few years.
In addition, Albany Medical Center recently completed a $166 million facility development program, resulting in one of the most technologically advanced tertiary care facilities in the nation. The medical center is contiguous with the Albany Medical College, which houses state-of-the art educational and research facilities. An integrated, multidisciplinary simulation center is now available as well. The Patient Safety and Clinical Competency Center provides simulation resources for students, residents and faculty in a 12,000-square-foot center with the latest technology.
